The ever-popular Practical Katana gives the martial artist the opportunity to own and use a Hanwei sword at the cost of an economy sword. The blades are forged and differentially hardened, using the same process as the more expensive blades and producing an HRC60 edge and HRC40 back. The temper line is authentic and prominent. Cost savings are effected by using fittings which, while making no claims to authenticity, are very strongly built to withstand the rigors of cutting exercises in the dojo. The Practical Wakizashi (SH2061) and Practical Tanto (SH2254) match the katana and provide a useful and economical set.

This sword is has great construction, from the mekugi, tsuka and the tsuba. It does not rattle at anytime. This is a very light weight sword and for cutting. I used card board tubes cause some are strong as bamboo and I am very satisfied with the performence of the katana. The Practical Specail Katana is a little lighter than this sword but, cuts amazing. For anyone who is a beginner the Practical Katana or the Practical Specail Katana is the best to purchase and it is at a great price.

Upon recieving this katana, I inspected it. No problems, The blade had a beautiful hamon, great geometry, and the furniture was simple (which I liked). The tsuka came with suede ito, and the two menuki were flowers (which are different from the dragon menuki on several of my other kats). the tang has a great fit within the tsuka, no rattling, but nice and tight. The only problem I had was the mekugi pegs were odd shaped, but I just added some new ones. For functionality, great cutter, even though I cut bottles (of various thickness) this katana cuts through with no resistance. If I were using mats I predict that this sword would have no problem. I would highly recommend this sword to anyone especially such a great katana at this price.
